What we do:
Shrewsbury based SDE Technology is a manufacturer of metal pressings and assemblies for automotive, aerospace and consumer product manufacturers.
While most SDE components may be hidden from view, they are nonetheless essential to the structure of an aircraft or motor vehicle. Every part must be made to tight tolerances and with carefully selecting grades of metal to match specific strength requirements.
In the past, most SDE components were made of steel. But as the need for lighter components and the importance of recycling has become of crucial importance the company has made a significant investment in cutting edge technology for the manufacture of parts in aluminium and lighter alloys.
By reducing weight for simpler, stronger structures, the aim is to create recyclable solutions that play their part in a more sustainable world.
Parts can be painted or coated with resistant finishes through the subsidiary powder coating and surface technology division.
The People who do it:
Currently SDE employs around 100 members of staff, including skilled 3D CAD Designers, CNC operators, welders, fabricators, machinists working alongside a dedicated planning and administrative team.
Into the Future:
With its investment in new HFQ technologies and a growing understanding of presswork using aluminium alloys, the management believes the right strategy is in place for the future.
The growing demand for Electric Vehicles, where lightweight construction and energy efficiency is crucial, and similar requirements in the Aerospace sector means SDE is well set for future growth and the long-term job security of its employees.
