Vitsœ
What we do:
Vitsœ makes furniture.
Our products are designed as true systems with high-quality specification and finish to ensure flexibility, adaptability, durability and therefore, longevity.
A true system is simple to construct, evolve, repair and dismantle. Most Vitsœ furniture comprises recyclable aluminium, steel and compostable wood that is assembled with mechanical joints (i.e. not bonded or welded) to permit repair and end-of-life dismantling.
All items are designed and built to last as long as possible.
In 2017, Vitsœ moved from its London workshop to a site in Royal Leamington Spa in the centre of England. We designed a low-energy, modest, expandable building that will adapt continuously in response to the changing needs of its occupiers for many decades.
Today, with a growing international team in a variety of worldwide locations, Vitsœ has pioneered selling directly to customers in more than 60 countries.
Why we do it:
Nearly everything we do in our lives seems to have a negative impact on the world around us.
At Vitsœ we create products that are avowedly long-term in their outlook.
Products that do not strive for built-in obsolescence but prefer to be discreet, adaptable and faithful servants in the face of a turbulent world. Products that minimise their inevitable impact on the world’s environment and resources by being useful for as long as possible."
This was Vitsœ’s proposition back in 1959: to refrain from fashion whilst creating products that would be the blank canvas on which to paint your colourful life.
After more than half a century our resolve is stronger than ever: more of us must learn the art of living better with less that lasts longer.
Here at Vitsœ we stand for the inordinate power of good design in everything we do: designing thoughtfully, responsibly and intelligently for our company, our furniture and the many people who share a profound interest in all of our tomorrows.
The People who do it:
Many say that the atmosphere inside the Vitsœ workshop is refreshing.
It is an ever-evolving hive of activity where the team works together with trust, good manners and respect towards a common goal: to assemble and dispatch furniture to Vitsœ customers around the world. It’s a place where everyone’s opinion is valued.
“We are all different, but it works. You need a mix of personalities, and I think it’s great that there are people from all sorts of backgrounds because that’s what rounds out the team. We all put the team first."
"It’s never what you want to do, or what you want to work on today – it’s always got to be what is best for the team. We never come to a task in the workshop and think what can I get out of this? There’s no room for ego. We want to carry out the work we do properly .... together."
Into the Future:
In a world that is travelling ever faster - where digital connection is causing less physical interaction - our new home is centred around human beings and their need for mutual comfort and nourishment.
Our Engineers include:
"Most people at Vitsœ have an unusual background and before they come to work here have done something entirely unrelated to making furniture. I think it makes it an excellent environment to learn new things from each other."
We have a willingness to learn from one another and an acceptance of other points of view. It’s not just one person’s opinion that counts; we do things respectfully, with a consensus approach.
To work here, you need to be curious to learn new skills and open to new ways of working. A traditional or self-taught education is good, it doesn’t matter which one you have.
